Crafting family narratives with Louise Martin-Chew and yarns with local storytellers.
Calling on the ghosts from our ancestors, the skeletons in the cupboard, and any old wives' or clans and tribes with tales. Our goal is to explore and create a collection of local yarns. Join us for this unique adventure into micro memoirs and delta-born memories.
Yarn Session: The day will commence with a ‘Yarn Session’ with four former and current locals, all with a tale to share you haven’t heard before. Ngaire Jarro, Dr John Trace OAM, Mark Vass and Elisa Rigano will share stories of how family life, connection, lineage and life’s trials and tribulations have been instrumental in their journey to becoming writers or creative Community Advocates. Their yarns highlight that personal stories are at the essence of all, not only do they shape us but our families and our community.
Writers Workshop: Established writer and biographer Dr Louise Martin-Chew will guide you with your own stories, taking you through creative non-fiction or life writing techniques. In this short writing workshop, Louise will take you through ways to interview your family members, document with images and anecdotes, and stimulate means of recording personal stories. Louise will share her experience of documenting her own family stories, including techniques to ask the hard questions of those who are closest to you.
Optional Mentoring Session: Participants can also register for a 1 on 1 mentoring session with Louise, to be held after her workshop.
Inclusions: The workshop price includes a mini High Tea for morning tea, with lunch at own purchase.
Participants are welcome to attend the entire day or can opt to attend just the Yarn Session or just the Writers Workshop. Morning tea will be served around 10.30am for those wishing to enjoy homemade Sicilian delights.
